One of Spain’s most luxurious vessels, the 49-meter-long megayacht TUMBERRY C, ran aground this Saturday morning at Sanxenxo in Pontevedra. Known for hosting King Juan Carlos aboard the ‘Bribón,’ the yacht suffered an engine room leak, causing it to start sinking at the bow. Prompt action by Nauta Sanxenxo, Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo, Salvamento Marítimo, Emergencies, and the Civil Guard prevented its sinking.
Authorities decided to beach the vessel a few meters from the pier, near Carabuxeira beach, where they managed to plug the leak. Currently docked at the Juan Carlos I port’s gas station awaiting interior repairs, the TUMBURRY C faced a crisis averted by a quick response from maritime teams. Formerly owned by Fernando Fernández Tapias, the megayacht now belongs to a Chinese entrepreneur, having passed through notable hands over the years
